Hi, and welcome to Bobinek, the small business on a big mission. Here’s where sustainable living meets interior design and style.

I’m Jana, and I started this business with a vision of creating stylish ottomans, chairs and other upcycled furniture pieces that suit the inner-city lifestyle.

Before I started Bobinek, I worked in the furniture retail industry for 10 years.

As I worked, I observed how impractical the sofas with fixed chaises were, especially for those who moved house often.

Customers who were anticipating a move would see the fixed chaise and think, “but what if it ends up on the wrong side in the new living room?”

I would then offer them a simple solution - Get a custom made ottoman instead! They often took me up on this and I helped them choose the right size, a nice fabric, and then they’d get matching cushions and suddenly I thought..

If people are so keen on these custom pieces of furniture, why don’t I make them myself?

And then by chance, I found an old chair outside my apartment and took a furniture restoration course.

Before I knew it I was restoring other furniture I had found… And eventually learned how to upholster properly too.

Then I realised…

I could combine my passion for being environmentally sustainable with furniture-making.

Each piece I work on has a unique story to tell, and I enjoy giving it new life whilst doing justice to the original design. All the materials I work with are carefully thought through and as sustainable as possible. Some of the fabrics I have collected on my travels, others are locally sourced.

I always work with the inspiration of my surroundings, and I love Australia for its beaches, the bush and the buzzing city life. I have lived here for 15 years, and am a proud Aussie citizen!

It’s been quite a journey getting Bobinek off the ground. I’ve learned to do everything from scratch, and continually add new skills to my repertoire!

I started with the multi-functional ottomans (great as a footrest, side table or even spare seat), and recently expanded my range to chairs as well. I will be adding more to the store in the future, so make sure to sign up to the mailing list if you’d like to stay in the loop!
