DIY Rinse for Dry Hair

If your hair feels dry and dead or your scalp is itchy and dry, then this hair treatment will help. It will leave your hair feeling soft, smooth and shiny as it will be healthier and revitalised. This rinse is also great for removing product build up from your hair.

2 Drops of Sandalwood essential oil

1 Tablespoon of Cider vinegar

1 Cup of Boiled water

Mix together all your ingredients thoroughly. You might experiment with the balance of water to vinegar in this recipe and of course you can add a different essential oil. Remember however that the oil use choose will be the fragrance you smell, so choose wisely.

Shampoo your hair as normal and then apply the vinegar rinse. Massage into scalp and let set for a couple of minutes while you wash your body. Rinse and then condition as normal.

Science Notes

You typically associate sandalwood with skin care as it is known to be very good for dehydrated, dry, cracked and chapped skin / hair. It contains santalols (approx. 90 per cent), santene, teresantol, santalone, borneol. It is also a calming agent and as such is a lovely additive to a hair rinse.

Apple cider vinegar helps restore natural pH balance to your scalp which is why it helps a dry scalp. The vinegar will also help prevent tangles and knots in long hair.

If your hair is looking and feeling dry and under-nourished, then reduce the amount of times you blow dry, straighten or curl your hair. As well as reducing the amount of chemicals you place in your hair.
