Countries Most Affected by Climate Change

The biggest winners and biggest losers from the impacts of climate change?

If you ever wondered why the world's biggest economies seem to be the least concerned about climate change, even as they are the biggest emitters, this set of global climate survival maps gives you a few tips.

These maps show the position of 181 countries around the world and came from data from University of Notre Dame's ND_Gain Index. They rank vulnerability to climate change on the basis of the country's likeliness to survive climate impacts (Healthcare, food supply and government stability) compared to their CO2 emissions and contributions to the crisis.

Norway is the world number one, the UK 12th and the USA 15th and Australia ranks in the top 30. The problem of course is that the world's most vulnerable and poorest nations have the lowest chance of survival, with sub Saharan Africa in the bottom 10 spaces and Somalia at the bottom. Climate change exacerbates an already problematic environment with the combination of unstable governance, poor infrastructure, lack of healthcare and a scarcity of food and water.

Very interesting. I have heard that Australia is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change given our propensity for drought and being the driest populated country on the planet so I'm surprised by Australia's green ranking? Monday, 21 October 2019
