Here are a number of tested formulas for getting rid of ants.


  1. Sprinkle powered red chilli pepper, paprika or borax on ant trails and in cracks near pints of entry.
  2. Place whole garlic or cloves around cupboards, bay leaves can also be placed in cupboard and drawers to further deter those pesky critters.
  3. Draw a line of chalk or sprinkle baby powder across the spot where the ants are entering your home.
  4. Make a repellent of citrus peelings and boiling water then pour over ant nests
  5. Wipe down your countertops, cupboards and any other places where you've spotted ants with a 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Repeat throughout the day to maintain the efficacy.

When you think about ant elimination, think logically:

Remove the source (food). Wipe up spills, don't leave crumbs around, take out the garbage every day, remove dead insects, don't leave dirty dishes around.

Keep your house and especially your kitchen clean. Remove odour traces by wiping surfaces with vinegar.

 Ants leave a trail to their food for their mates to follow. The idea is to eradicate the trail using one of the methods mentioned here.

 Hunt down the nest if ants really are out of control.
