Filled with luscious sustainable KapoK fiber our mattresses are light and easy to handle. They are firm and supportive, the fiber is moisture resistant therefore will never mildew or mold. Kapok has natural anti-bacterial properties in which dust mites and bed bugs cannot live. Completely chemical free. No flame retardants. No fumigation / Unfumigated.
We are using a new system of 3 mattresses laid horizontally across the width of the bed. See images. The mattress shells are sewn using Organic cotton fabric. Making our sleep system the most organic available in Australia.
The thinking here is that the middle of our beds is where the most compaction occurs so, by laying mattresses horizontally you will be able to switch the top to middle, bottom to middle, bottom to top etc before needing to place your mattresses in the sunshine to naturally 'fluff' them up.
Because KapoK is so light you can easily rotate the middle one, which is where the most compaction occurs, to swap with the top or bottom mattress for even distribution avoiding that mid-bed sag. Your mattresses are light enough to be able to flip, rotate and/or carry your mattress outside to puff up in sunshine with ease.
Our mattresses are 15cm deep and we offer washable KapoK filled mattress toppers / protectors that you can place on top of your mattress system. These toppers are appx. 2-3cm deep taking the total depth to 17-18cm of luxurious chemical free sleep. The outer casing of the protectors / toppers / mat shells are made with organic Okeo-Tex® double knit jersey fabric. See separate listing.
Measurements and weights are appx. Our mattresses are hand made, not by machinery, therefore slight variations in weight occur whilst retaining quality. Freight within Australia is included in the prices quoted. Please call us on 0482771027 or email us hello@goldilocksnaturalbeddng.com.au to let me know your requirements

*Advised to measure your bed! A recent client found https://earlysettler.com.au/pages/bedroom ... for wooden bed bases at a very good price.
Our three mattress system is three separate mattresses.
Our clients use various methods to ensure that the mattresses do not separate whilst sleeping.
1/ Some purchase a mattress protector [We have KapoK filled Okeo Tex shell protectors] that have elastic on each corner.
2/ Others have a small rim around the edge of their bed base preventing separation then your sheets and / or underlay do the rest.
3/ Some purchase a doona cover of the right size to slip the mattresses into. Using it like a giant pillow case.
4/ Some also use 2 fitted sheets so that the mattresses do not slip apart.

INGREDIENTS & RELATED NOTES
KapoK fiber in a cotton shell.
KapoK is naturally organic, the cotton shell is not.
I am working towards an organic cotton shell.
I could get organic KapoK certification in Indonesia and although I have been working, in varying capacities, for 30 years there I know I cannot trust its authenticity.
However I have traced the journey of KapoK fiber from the tree in the village to the cleaning establishments and know in my heart of hearts that there are no chemicals used in the growing or preparation of KapoK fiber.
This is the main reason that I chose to create our natural bedding system using KapoK, naturally organic, chemical free and sustainable. Ticks all my boxes.
KapoK and its cotton shell are also 100% compostable therefore I have coined a phrase from cradle to compost and I stand by it.
Expert mattress makers handcraft each of our mattresses in Indonesia. The KapoK fiber is sourced by villagers wild gathering the pods across the Indonesian archipelago and doing a preliminary clean before being purchased by a 'middle man' who bales it up and trucks it to port to send to a cleaning centre. Where it is carded/ginned to remove as much of the debris and core as possible. This is the only 'processing' that KapoK needs in order for us to benefit from its chemical free bounty.
We also make Heavenly Head Sleep Pillows, body bolsters & doonas as well as small dog/puppy cat cushions/beds/pillows. These are made here in Australia using Organic cotton or Hemp & Organic cotton and OKEO TEX® fabrics that we buy in Australia and we have local seamstresses who make the shells in our fabulous range that we offer you.
THIS PRODUCT'S PACKAGING IS MADE OF:
The size of mattresses makes eco-friendly packaging a challenge. We end up sending your mattress to you rolled up and tied with recycled fabric strip in a large plastic [sorry] bag inside a large woven sack so that all survive the rigours of our postal system.
Regrettably only the outer woven sack can be reused by you. The inner plastic bag is usually polypropylene which is recyclable at most local Coles and Woolworths stores.
They have a bin at the front of the shop for soft plastics which goes to Replas in Victoria who has been making garden furniture, fence posts, bollards, decking, walkways in National Parks and other products since 1990. Check it out, I have been using it for over a decade. YAY!
