Welcome to Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA)
The Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA) is dedicated to promoting bioplastics - a whole family of materials which are biobased, biodegradable, or both derived from renewable biomass sources, such as plant based starch, sugarcane or cellulose.

With ABA Compostable certification, you can be confident your product really is compostable. Some common applications of bioplastics are packaging materials, dining utensils, food packaging, hygiene products and insulation.

ABA has launched Australian Standard AS 4736-2006 and Australian Standard AS 5810-2010 compostable and biodegradable plastics certification system for Businesses and Homes throughout Australia and New Zealand.

To be certified compostable and carry the seedling logo (Industrial) and the Home Compostable logo (Residential), suitable biopolymer materials must undergo a stringent test regime outlined by applicable AS standard and carried out by recognised independent accredited laboratories.

Since 2006, the Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA) has been the peak body for the bioplastics industry for manufacturers, converters and distributors of bioplastic products and materials throughout Australia and New Zealand.

ABA works with government, organic recyclers, composters, industry groups, non-government organisations, brand owners and converters to further the understanding and appropriate use of bioplastics.

We are supported by AORA (Australian Organics Recycling Association) and WasteMINZ Organic Materials Sector Group.
