Clean and Disinfect Your Fridge with White Vinegar

Vinegar is consistently an effective and safe cleanser for your refrigerator

You can use 'full strength' supermarket vinegar straight from the bottle or a solution of half white vinegar and half water to wash both the interior and exterior of your fridge, including all the seals.

If you have a problem with mildew growth, go straight for the full-strength vinegar on a cloth and wipe every surface. No need to rinse.

Don't worry about the vinegar smell as it will disappear very quickly.

If your fridge has a bad odour that you still can’t shake even after scrubbing it, wipe down the inside of the fridge with vanilla extract.

Science Notes

Store bought vinegar is typically 5% by volume (Acetic Acid) and it is the acid that kills bacteria, mould and viruses. Vinegar might not smell the best, but it’s far healthier than having your nose inside a fridge, hovering over noxious chemical fumes.

We over-use commercial cleaner – to levels nearly 1000 times what we need, for very little benefit.

If you have a lingering smell in your fridge, place a small bowl of vanilla extract in fridge and leave it there. If you would prefer no ‘smell’, try putting Baking Soda in a bowl instead.
