You can use 'full strength' supermarket vinegar straight from the bottle or a solution of half white vinegar and half water to wash both the interior and exterior of your fridge, including all the seals. If you have a problem with mildew growth, go straight for the full-strength vinegar on a cloth and wipe every surface. No need to rinse.Don't worry about the vinegar smell as it will disappear very quickly. If your fridge has a bad odour that you still can’t shake even after scrubbing it, wipe down the inside of the fridge with vanilla extract.
Store bought vinegar is typically 5% by volume (Acetic Acid) and it is the acid that kills bacteria, mould and viruses. Vinegar might not smell the best, but it’s far healthier than having your nose inside a fridge, hovering over noxious chemical fumes. We over-use commercial cleaner – to levels nearly 1000 times what we need, for very little benefit.
If you have a lingering smell in your fridge, place a small bowl of vanilla extract in fridge and leave it there. If you would prefer no ‘smell’, try putting Baking Soda in a bowl instead.
