  • Eat less sugar, refined carbohydrates and trans and saturated fats.
  • Ensure you get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.
  • Rotate a mix of cardiovascular, strength and flexibility exercises to develop and maintain heart health, bone strength and joint and muscle flexibility.
  • Ensure you get at least 15 minutes of sunshine a day. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, muscles and overall health.

Science Notes

While there is a lot of debate about the virtues of different foods, there are some things that are never debated.

For starters, if you are healthy, your footprint has to be lighter.

Setting aside your lower likelihood of needing the health system infrastructure, fresh fruit and vegetables have low calories and help maintain healthy weight and digestion. And better yet, they aren't processed and hopefully not packaged.

Whole grains are also low calorie and contain many disease fighting compounds.  Nuts are packed with nutrients and though high in fat, the fat is mostly unsaturated. Also, food affects your mood. If you want to fell better quickly, eat complex carbohydrates such as whole grains.

Fish is high in brain and heart supporting omega-3 fatty acids. And don't forget dark chocolate - full of polyphenols for your blood vessels and blood pressure.
