How Green is Your Transport?

Getting to Work: What’s Your Mode of Transportation?

Want to know how you stack up against your peers with your daily commute? As you might imagine, most Australians are still doing it the old fashioned way - driving their cars to work. In fact, a recent survey shows that seven out of every ten (seventy-one percent) Australians commute to work in their car, some of which carpool. Of the remaining thirty percent, people almost evenly opt to take the train, walk, roller blade, skateboard or bus it to work.  (Or a combination of a couple of these!)

While these figures may seem grim, the happy news is that people are increasingly looking to green their commute. This is especially true in cities where commuting infrastructure is popping up – things like mass transit, biking lanes and walking paths.

There’s still a long way to go, as is evidence by the tightly fitted traffic lines during commuting hours. Twenty-four percent of Australians still spend more than an hour and a half each day commuting. So ditch the car, hop on your bike or put your running shoes on and squeeze in a workout on your way to work and feel good about reducing your carbon footprint.
