Latest news....3 x 75 mattresses [King size] laid from bed head to base allows you to replace the central mattress easily. It is this mattress that gets the most weight on it, therefore the most compaction and is in most need to be rotated. The 3 x 75cm system allows you to move the central mattress to the base or the head of your bed giving extra long life to your natural bedding system investment.
Sourced from naturally growing KapoK fallen seed pods. Kapok needs no cultivation, watering [just pure fresh rainwater], no fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides. The tree does not need to be cut down, simply left to grow next seasons pods for us. KapoK Is the lowest impact eco-fiber on the planet.
KapoK fiber is hollow therefore lightweight, for those of us who stagger under the weight of or cannot even contemplate lifting or rotating or even carrying our mattresses outside to air. Kapok mattresses weight between 7-9kg per mattress making it easy to rotate, flip or carry outside to air, it will even float!
All natural fibers compact with use over time however KapoK has the unique ability to 'puff/fluff' back up when placed in sunshine.
Your KapoK mattress will last up to 20 years before needing replacing making it the most comfortable, luxurious, sustainable, durable and economical eco-mattress available in Australia today. And remember, naturally anti-bacterial therefore mites and bugs cannot live in it.
Our mattresses are not fumigated and contain no other nasties such as flame retardants or waterproofing and the cocktail of chemicals that the majority of foam, sponge, memory foam, latex and other mattresses on the market today contain which happily harbour mites and bugs and mould.
This is a truly eco VEGAN non-toxic bedding system with lots of health benefits for humans and the environment. Lots more info on our website.
INGREDIENTS & RELATED NOTES
KapoK fiber in a cotton shell.
KapoK is naturally organic, the cotton shell is not.
I am working towards an organic cotton shell.
I could get organic KapoK certification in Indonesia and although I have been working, in varying capacities, for 30 years there I know I cannot trust its authenticity.
However I have traced the journey of KapoK fiber from the tree in the village to the cleaning establishments and know in my heart of hearts that there are no chemicals used in the growing or preparation of KapoK fiber.
This is the main reason that I chose to create our natural bedding system using KapoK, naturally organic, chemical free and sustainable. Ticks all my boxes.
KapoK and its cotton shell are also 100% compostable therefore I have coined a phrase from cradle to compost and I stand by it.
Expert mattress makers handcraft each of our mattresses in Indonesia. The KapoK fiber is sourced by villagers wild gathering the pods across the Indonesian archipelago and doing a preliminary clean before being purchased by a 'middle man' who bales it up and trucks it to port to send to a cleaning centre. Where it is carded/ginned to remove as much of the debris and core as possible. This is the only 'processing' that KapoK needs in order for us to benefit from its chemical free bounty.
We also make Heavenly Head Sleep Pillows, body bolsters & doonas as well as small dog/puppy cat cushions/beds/pillows. These are made here in Australia using Organic cotton or Hemp & Organic cotton and OKEO TEX® fabrics that we buy in Australia and we have local seamstresses who make the shells in our fabulous range that we offer you.
THIS PRODUCT'S PACKAGING IS MADE OF:
The size of mattresses makes eco-friendly packaging a challenge. We end up sending your mattress to you rolled up and tied with recycled fabric strip in a large plastic [sorry] bag inside a large woven sack so that all survive the rigours of our postal system.
Regrettably only the outer woven sack can be reused by you. The inner plastic bag is usually polypropylene which is recyclable at most local Coles and Woolworths stores.
They have a bin at the front of the shop for soft plastics which goes to Replas in Victoria who has been making garden furniture, fence posts, bollards, decking, walkways in National Parks and other products since 1990. Check it out, I have been using it for over a decade. YAY!
