By making your own baby massage oil, you have saved yourself about $10, and you have stayed in control of what substances your baby comes into contact with. 1 cup of Sunflower oil1 teaspoon of Lavender essential oilMix the two ingredients together, ensuring the essential oil is well diluted within the sunflower oil.Store in a small bottle. Keep at room temperatureTo use, squirt a pea sized amount in the palm of your hand, rub hands together and then massage your baby. Add more massage oil whenever your hands start to feel dry against your baby’s skin. Your hands should remain oily throughout the massage.
The sunflower oil can be replaced by a number of different natural oils including almond, olive, coconut and jojoba oil. Each oil contains different vitamins, but all will moisturise your baby’s skin. The lavender essential oil can be replaced by any of your favourite essential oils. Lavender oil is a good choice if you are hoping to soothe the baby to sleep, but if you perform the massage to wake baby up, you might prefer to choose a more stimulating scent such as orange essential oil. If you are unsure about exposing your baby’s skin to strong smells, you can further dilute the essential oil, or even leave it out altogether.
Reuse a small bottle, perhaps an old spice jar. By doing this you do not have to go out and buy another. Make sure that you wash the bottle thoroughly and with natural cleaning agents.
