The Orangutan Alliance has launched our campaign titled #MyStepToProtect to celebrate International Orangutan Day on August 19th 2020. The viral campaign is designed to remind people that it’s not too late to facilitate collective change for the planet, through living a more sustainable lifestyle.
The campaign aims to sell over 2000 Orangutan Alliance palm oil free soaps created in conjunction with Viva La Body.
We start planting in the Leuser Ecosystem (Sumatra), one of the world's richest forest and oxygen systems. This area is the last place on earth where critically endangered Elephants, Rhinos, Tigers and Orangutans co-exist and over 100 mammal and 382 bird species.
It is at risk due to deforestation and land clearing for pulp and palm oil. Every limited edition Orangutan Alliance soap you purchase will help to directly fund this game-changing work, replanting and restoring native habitat in the Leuser Ecosystem, and helping to safeguard and protect it for the decades to come.
In addition to the sale of the soaps, Orangutan Alliance is calling for people to get involved and support the campaign by sharing their #MyStepToProtect on social media in starting in August and tagging 3 friends to take a step to protect the planet and critically endangered species.
WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE COLLECTIVE ACTION THROUGH THIS CAMPAIGN TO GET PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT HOW THEY CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION OF PROTECTING ENDANGERED SPECIES AND CLIMATE CHANGE. THERE ARE SO MANY SILLY SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIN POSTS GOING AROUND AT THE MOMENT THAT WE THOUGHT INSTEAD WE WOULD CREATE ONE WHERE PEOPLE CAN ENCOURAGE THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO CARE FOR THE PLANET AND WORK TOWARDS BEING THE GENERATION THAT ENDS DEFORESTATION.
It's so easy. This commitment could be –
Get involved with your friends, family and business and help us build a movement which will protect the planet and critically endangered species. As part of the campaign we will also be highlighting information about our community of certified brands and project partners.#MyStepToProtect Soaps are available to purchase internationally at The Orangutan Alliance or via Flora and Fauna for $10.00.
Palm oil is in about 50% of packaged goods and accounts for 35% of the world’s vegetable oil production. Unsustainable palm oil which has devastating effects on wildlife, habitats and human rights. It also aims to raise funds for conservation, because Orangutans are listed as critically endangered with almost 80% of their natural habitat destroyed.
There are almost 200 species around the world nearing extinction and unsustainable palm oil is the main threat to the survival of orangutans and other endangered species as well as deforestation, particularly in Borneo and Sumatra.
Orangutan Alliance is a global, Melbourne-based not-for-profit advocating for the end of unsustainable palm oil in products through palm oil free certification, research, campaigns and programs. It supports clear labelling of all oils including palm oil in all products to provide consumers with the choice to buy for environmental or health reasons. Orangutan Alliance profits go into grassroots projects that promote conservation, education and reforestation programs.
