Sardines for Omega-3

Get Your Omega-3 Fatty Acids with Sardines

Sardines are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids and an excellent way to get your daily required intake. While it’s always better to eat fresh fish, especially sardines, it is a good standby to keep a few cans in your pantry. Canned sardines are easy to store, have a long shelf life and are a valuable staple pantry item.

Sardines are a valuable source of omega-3 fats and also contain vitamins B2, B3, B12, and D as well as protein, calcium, copper, selenium, phosphorus and choline.

Sardines provide valuable health benefits such as the regulation of cell activity in the fight against cancer as well as the support of bone health and improvement of cardiovascular health.

Fresh sardines can be steamed, grilled, baked or fried using a wide range of ingredients to add flavour. Lemon, salt, pepper, garlic, onions, olive oil, basil, mint, parsley, oregano, rosemary and tomatoes are favourite friends of sardines and a wide range of fish recipes. If you prefer the canned version of sardines, which are usually soaked in oil, you can add these already flavourful sardines to salads or use them as a topping to crackers or whole grain bread.
