This month Schulz Organic Dairy launched two incredible new initiatives. One for consumers and the other for food service providers. (Restaurants, Cafes and Catering).Schulz Organic Dairy milk is now available in both reusable, refillable 1 litre glass bottles for consumers and 15 litre stainless steel pails for food service. The 15 litre Stainless Steel Pails are being trialled at local Victorian food service providers - Little Green Corner in Geelong and Brae in Birregurra. Schulz were originally approached by sustainability design guru Joost Bakker with the idea when he had Brothl n Melbourne. Restaurants and cafes use a huge amount of plastic with milk and these new pails we will save an estimated 1000kgs of plastic and 12,000 containers per annum, just for Schultz alone.Through the use of these new pails we will save an estimated 1000kgs of plastic and 12,000 containers per annum. As an ex cafe owner, I can tell you that even if you aren't a sustainability zealot, plastic milk bottles are the bane of your life. You are constantly breaking them down, they take up a heap of space, you go through tons of them and where do you toss them? Schulz Organic Dairy has been around since 1972 supplying organic & biodynamic non-homogenised milk, pure cream, quark, fetta and yoghurt. All previously in plastic. (Not the calf. It's real.)The 1litre glass bottle is now the way of the future at Schulz Dairy and for the moment as production is ramped up, the product can be purchased from and returned to Schulz stalls at various Victorian farmers’ markets. Once returned, they will be washed and refilled at the Timboon processing factory. The first weekend sales on 21 -2 October 2017 were sold out within an hour and half. Clearly there is a huge market demand for the product.“It’s great to have such acclaimed customers buying into our vision to become a more sustainable business,” says Simon. “It’s also great to give both food service and retail customers the opportunity to cut down on waste – as far as we know we are the first dairy brand to do this.”Next year Schulz Organic Dairy plan to have their glass bottles on retail shelves.
