Praise your dog during the soak to make this a positive experience for your dog...and you!
I find an Oatmeal paste really helps with 'Hotspots' on the dogs - blend half a cup of oatmeal and half a cup of warm water and leave on affected area for ten minutes covering with a warm towel...soothing! Wednesday, 10 June 2015
I haven't tried it - but it seems to be only a relief treatment - need to look at what is causing the actual problem....is it fleas? If so it needs a much stronger treatment. Also, if your dog is allergic to something in the garden for example then this will need to be sorted out. Similarly, for me personally I learnt that diet can cause itchy skin just as much as anything else, so that needs to be addressed first - then oatmeal bath later :) Tuesday, 9 June 2015

Oatmeal has several different properties that provide great benefits to the skin. The Polysaccharides in oats will coat the skin with a protective, nourishing barrier that helps prevent itchiness and dry skin. Phenol's found in oats offer anti inflammatory benefits and the cleansing properties are due to Saponins. It is the many functional properties provided by oatmeal that make it a all in one cleanser, moisturizer, buffer as well as a soothing and protective anti-inflammatory agent.
When included in a dogs diet, oatmeal is also a great source of soluble fiber especially for senior dogs with bowel irregularity issues. However be sure to cook the oatmeal first before adding it to your dogs meal.
