Turmeric & Pineapple Slushie

Healthy Recipe - Turmeric and Pineapple Crush

This recipe is dairy free, gluten free, low fat and wheat free.

This delicious refreshing drink is the healthy equivalent of a slushie. 

Both turmeric and bromelain, the enzyme found in pineapple, are natural treatments for inflammation. Bromelain is also used as a digestive enzyme to help break down proteins.

INGREDIENTS


1 cup pineapple chunks, frozen

½ tsp turmeric powder

¼ tsp cinnamon, ground

¼ tsp ginger, ground

1 pinch cloves, ground

1 cup coconut water

METHOD

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until slushy. Divide between two glasses and serve.

Makes 2 servings

Related Tip
Pineapples will not ripen once picked, so select carefully and use your nose. Ripe pineapples give off a sweet, fresh, tropical smell.

To test for ripeness pull one of the green spiky leaves. If it can be removed easily from the crown it's ready. 

Fresh turmeric rhizomes are available from greengrocers. Handle carefully as it will stain skin and clothing.

Buy powdered turmeric from a reputable retailer, as poor quality, cheap turmeric is sometimes diluted with starches.
