Detox and Enhance Liver Function in 10 Easy Steps

Promoting healthy liver function doesn’t need to be a chore

Detoxifying your body need only involve simple habit changes and it won't even cost money. In fact, it will probably save you money.

The primary role of the liver is to filter blood passing from the digestive tract before it continues its journey through the rest of the body. It is responsible for detoxifying chemicals and metabolising drugs. The liver breaks down fats and secretes bile which is passed back to the intestines to be eliminated. It also manufactures and breaks down proteins which are important for blood clotting and cholesterol which is responsible for transporting fats, laden with toxins, through the body.

Like anything that needs regular care, the liver needs daily attention to maintain optimum health:

  • Drink filtered water with lemon or lime to help break down fat stored in the liver
  • Drink a minimum of two litres of filtered water to cleanse the kidneys and digestive tract
  • Drink green smoothies to increase intake of fibre and nutrients
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables to increase fibre consumption
  • Reduce food intake to rest your liver

For one month each year, change a few things around:

  • Replace wheat with other grains like rye, oats, quinoa or brown rice
  • Eliminate alcohol, caffeinated drinks and non-prescription medications
  • Take a natural herbal medicine, to promote growth of liver cells
  • Cut out dairy products and red meat to reduce saturated fats
  • Stick to white fish, skinless chicken, raw nuts and tempeh

Put simply, year-round and periodic detoxification should maximise your liver function.See more at: 9 Ways to Boost Your Health with Leafy Greens
