Keeping it Real - Dolls

With over half a million facebook followers, Tree Change Dolls is the most amazing business. Sonia Singh and her mother recycle dolls, re-painting their faces & replacing clothes to reflect real children.

Sonia SinghSonia was a scientist with CSIRO and started the business after being made redundant a few years ago. She shot to fame in 2015  after being featured on SBS and ABC.

Now with in excess of 21 million views on her video series on Youtube, she is teaching others how to remake the dolls and she is a viral sensation.

Sonia somehow seems to keep it real, just like her dolls. Her shop is still on etsy and she seems to have decided the keep her market size confined to what she and her mother can manage between them. For me, that makes her not just an incredible artist turning over sexualised dolls into everyday little girls, but also a beacon for staying true to your values and not selling out for business alone.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, SONIA SINGH SEEMS TO HAVE SPAWNED A WHOLE NEW INDUSTRY, INSPIRING OTHERS LIKE THE LAMMILY DOLL AND HERE IN AUSTRALIA, LORNA MUNRO FROM REDFERN, WHO IS BEHIND AN INDIGENOUS SERIES OF RE-CYCLED DOLLS. BOTH ARTISTS REMAKE A LOT OF BRATZ DOLLS.

If you are looking for a real life doll for your child, you have to check Tree Change Dolls out. The truth is that the dolls sell out very quickly so they are hard to get.

Sonia's Youtube channel does have extensive instruction on how to convert your own dolls and with a short search on ekko.world, you can find your local Op Shop (Search Children > Dolls & Teddies), and be on your way to making your own real dolls.
