We are joining millions of others around the world, including the business coalition Not Business as Usual led by super fund Future Super who are calling on the private sector to support their employees in striking for climate action at the Global Climate Strike on 20th September. If you are a business, this means you can either publicly support the strike as a business or if you have employees, support their participation in the strike if they choose to attend by giving them a long lunch or even the day off. If you are an employee, put your hand up and ask your boss for a few hours or the day off and head to the strike.
Smart Company recently published a story on Abigail Forsyth from KeepCup who were among the first to join Not Business as Usual and agree to shut their doors to support the student led climate strike on 20th September. Smart Company reported Keep Cup was among 25 business doing the same.
A day later, Grace Polos said that more than 130 businesses from around the country have now jumped on board including Atlassian, Intrepid Travel, Keep Cup, Future Super and many more. There are now thousands of businesses on board.
Pledging support by joining Not Business as Usual or simply supporting the movement costs little and says a lot. You add to a roll call of leading Australian businesses who publicly support climate action and who also support giving their employees time off to attend activities on September 20th.
We appreciate that every business is different and the very existence of eco businesses is already contributing way more than most. We’re simply nudging businesses to do whatever they can, including supporting their employees to take part, and encouraging other businesses to do the same.
Not business as usual has no hashtag because they don’t want to brand-jack the climate strike. Instead, they suggest using #ClimateStrike if you want to to tap into the global conversation.
There is a pile of information on the climate strike online, but you can check out the official websites for the Global Climate Strike and in Australia, the Australian Youth Climate Coalition’s School Strike 4 Climate.
