Why Kids Should Play Dough

Why Kids Should Play Dough

Kids are actually hard at work when they play dough

Some people are just so dang clever!  And here is a case in point. I am completely in awe of Emma from Happy Hands Happy Heart who made this lobster - and hundreds of other incredible play dough pictures.

Together with her creative team, Matilda, Tasman and George (pictured left); Emma makes 100 percent natural play dough which she sells all over Australia.

There are a trillion reasons why playdough is such a great childhood toy and just as many for making sure you know what your child is playing with.

Children are naturally born curious and with a love to explore using all their five senses so while poking, prodding, rolling, seeing, feeling, kids are also smelling and wanting to taste.

There is no question that playing with playdough encourages learning, creativity, and motor skills development as children knead, roll, cut, squish, and mould shapes out of their own imagination. Playdough play is a particularly calming activity as kids create and focus.

When the time comes for your child to taste their new treasure however, you might just want to know what they are putting in their mouth.

Because the commercial Play-Doh recipe, to our knowledge, has never been made public, it's impossible to know what colourants and preservatives have been used in its manufacture.

To be totally sure it's free from any chemicals and safe for play, you can make your own play dough from our recipe.

By making your own play dough, you know exactly what's in it and it is actually very easy and cheap to make so you can save a heap of money.

You also reduce your environmental impact by avoiding the packaging and transportation of a shop bought product.

There are plenty of DIY recipes are available online which are pretty much versions of this same recipe.

If you don't want to make your own or you would like to go with something tested and proven, Happy Hands Happy Heart is a great option. The product is all natural, using only plant based dyes and ingredients. Happy Hands Happy Heart playdoughs come in different colours, textures, and they have also developed a range of scents.

Happy Hands Happy Heart comes in reusable glass jars, perfect for storage. You can either reuse the jar or return it and get $1 off on your next purchase.  The product is available through stockists, but you can buy it direct.

Oh, I wish Happy Hands was around when my son was a toddler. This is great. I used to make my own, but didn't even think of putting essential oils in the mixture. Thank you. Thursday, 14 September 2017
