How to be simply Eco in 5 Easy Steps

You will love these 5 simple changes to becoming eco

You may not have solar panels installed in your home or drive a hybrid car, but if you are making an effort to reduce your energy consumption or water usage, then you are definitely making a significant contribution. Here are 5 simple things you can do to make a difference so great, they surely deserve a rock star badge:

  1. Always bring a reusable bag with you, in your bag, car or even gym bag. You never know when you might need a bag and the best way to ween yourself off plastic is to never be tempted! Forgot to bring your own bag? Community groups like Boomerang Bags in Burleigh Heads are setting up share bag stations in popular shopping spots. Feel free to borrow one or get yourself a few spares from bag traders and be prepared!

  2. Unplug appliances from the power source when not in use. Think - before sleeping at night or before leaving the house for work. Appliances continue to draw power as long as they are plugged in, even when they are off. You can cut off at least 10% from your monthly energy bill, and prevent the risk of starting a fire as a bonus!

  3. Use cold water and low temperature cycles for your laundry. Save water and power at the same time!

  4. Turn off your PC when not in use, or set it to “sleep” or “hibernate” mode if you must leave it idle for a few minutes. Better yet, if you will not be using it for the next few hours, unplug it.

  5. If you need to buy a new home appliance, choose the highest Energy Star rating. You will use less electricity and your appliance will generally last longer.
