Global Sisters are Doing it for Themselves

Standing on their own two feet, thanks to Mandy Richards

According to Trendhunter (who are clearly very on trend), Social Good is a Number 1 trend around the world. The meaning in the things we buy is increasingly important to many consumers. Meaning comes in many guises and making a difference to other people ranks amongst the highest.

So what that means is this. For many of us, (without wanting to sound flippant, because I am not, even though I sound that way) - if we are buying products or services from a company who are supporting a social enterprise, we get double virtuosity points with every purchase. And that is because what we buy in some way changes a life for good.

Global Sisters are completely in the pocket of this trend and here's why.

Mandy Richards founded Global Sisters in the middle of 2016 with a dream to provide an alternative income source to more than 700,000 women in Australia on welfare or subsisting at poverty levels. (1 in 7 Australian women live below the poverty line.)

Partnering with Myer, Deloitte and Citibank, Global Sisters has also raised funding through The Funding Network. The group provides business, marketing and sales  education as well as micro loans to the women to finance their business venture.

With more than 700 women across most states of Australia now involved in the program, Global Sisters have recently launched their own beautiful marketplace supported by 130 of those women, filling it with the most gorgeous children's toys, jewellery, homewares, fashion and services like art workshops.

Pretty much all of the products the women make are sustainable & ethical. And they are clearly local. One of the things to really love about the work these women are doing is the diversity. Because many of them are refugees, they make the most incredible range of products that could come from many countries around the world, but they are all local.

Some of these products are in the Global Sisters ekko.world shop, but there are literally hundreds on their site, so follow the links to support a global sister, right here in Australia. (You can also add a comment or question below if you want to talk to anyone at Global Sisters.)
