Trashion Fashion Show - Rethinking the Garbage Heap

We discovered the wonderful Trashion Fashion on Instagram a while back. Not yet in Australia, Trashion Fashion are based in New York, and run fashion design shows and education across USA. They are on a mission to contribute to a global reduction of waste through creative solutions and engaging as many creative types as possible.

Their incredible results are evidenced on their Instagram feed and via the many many others who post #trashionfashion.

Students, artists and businesses work with Trashion Fashion to find creative uses for items diverted from the waste stream. They want to foster a generation of mindful consumers and creators who will change the way the world sees waste.

The annual Trashion Fashion Show features wearable art made from materials that have been literally been rescued from the bin. As is evidenced in their glorious pictures, the events were started with the intention of combining a passion for environmentalism, preforming arts and fashion.

The season starts right around Earth Day each year in Hartford, Connecticut and is then followed up with shows in Washington D.C. and concludes in September with a final show at the Queens Botanical Garden in New York.

Trashion Fashion’s concepts have been integrated into schools since 2012, and over 100 student designers and 20 schools have participated in Trashion Fashion Shows.

Trashion Fashion believes that by educating and inspiring our youth to be creative problem solvers we can save our planet. Check out Trashion Fashion education plans.
