Upcycled Denim: OverAll 15.16 is crowdfunded

"Circular, tick. Conscious, tick. Cute AF, tick! Let’s support ass-kicking single mums who are actively working to reduce waste and enact positive change! If we don’t, who will?!”

Jo Lorenz - Founder, Conscious Citizen Co, said that about Eirlie Chisholm from OverAll 15.16 and when it comes to eco conscious products for all things children, it's generally mothers who are kicking ass. (Just to be clear - market ass, not their children.)

OverAll 15.16 has achieved their crowdfunding target on Kickstarter and are in production! They quickly passed their initial target of AU$10,000 after being earmarked as a "Project We Love" by Kickstarter staff. There are still plenty of rewards to claim on Kickstarter until the project closes on Friday, November 8 2019 12:02 AM AEST.

Eirlie Chisholm founded OverAll 15.16 as a newly single mum to two children under two, so you won't be surprised that her key product is children's overalls. It all started because both of her children were in cloth nappies and she couldn’t find anything stylish, yet durable to fit over their chunky bottoms. With a background in fashion, she decided to start her own range of unisex denim overalls.  Two years later, Eirlie is on Kickstarter with a wide range of upcyled denim products that focus on offering ethical denim for modern, eco-conscious humans.

The fabric is upcycled pre-consumer waste denim. The mill rescues scraps of denim fabric offcuts from local denim manufacturers, breaks down the fibres, and re-weaves it into new thread for new textiles. The denim takes its colour from the original offcuts it is woven from, which eliminates the need for dyes and chemicals.

OverAll 15.16 make a range of denim (and related) products including Letters, Overalls for Kids or Adults, Fabric, Patterns & Guides. Some of the overalls include an incredible collaboration with artist Casey Burrill who has digitally printed one of designs.

All OverAll 15.16 product are made to last. Letters can be sewn onto your existing garments. Kid's overalls are made to be future heirlooms, with a custom-designed screen print in the back lining of the garment to allow the owner to write their name. Two additional spaces are there for when the garment is passed on to other children, a reminder to celebrate and cherish the life the garment has lived.

All fabric and threads used are cotton, so once the garment is no longer needed, the hardware can be removed and the garment will completely break down. All packaging is biodegradable, from the packaging materials to the eco-friendly packing tape. Paper material used for swing tickets and notes in orders is made from card offcuts that have been used in the earlier pattern cutting process, made into a pulp and poured into new moulds to make "new" paper.
